REVIEW for NETFLIX of Enki Bilal's IMMORTAL

CF's Composition Desk

This is a terrific sci-fi movie with well-worked out ideas and a large, dense, complete world; the Ancient Egypt bits actually work very well. I watched it twice and got much more out of it the second time. It is very dense but the answers are there. The characterization is good and the departures from the expected are too. There is a terrific amount of detail but it fits together perfectly, and it is down-to-earth when it needs to be. There are some inside machinations too (such as the big "Tycho Brahe" sign) worth puzzling about; the humor is good (girls afraid of date-rape will love the soap dish that cutely offers them a gun in moment of apparent need); it is both wet and dry, by turns. I recommend it highly for people with imagination.
